About Scottsdale, Arizona
The name conjures up visions of sunny days, fine living, luxury spas, five-star resorts and GOLF! In fact, Scottsdale is one of the most popular golf vacation destinations in the nation, especially in wintertime. When cold weather, snow and sleet throw an icy chill over the northern United States, golfers flock to Scottsdale. East of Phoenix, north of Tempe and only minutes from Sky Harbor International Airport, it’s easily accessible by plane or car.
With nearly 180 golf courses in the area, there are plenty to choose from. But there’s plenty to do off the links, too. Within minutes, you can find hiking, hot air balloon rides, mountain climbing, bike riding, great city parks, museums and art galleries, horseback riding, the Salt River and Tempe Town Lake, and the ever popular…shopping.
Old Town Scottsdale features an “Old West” atmosphere and features some great places to eat plus authentic Native American arts and jewelry, western galleries, cowboy boots and leather goods.
Annual events in Scottsdale include the fun Parada del Sol parade and, of course, the FBR Open which is held at the Tournament Players Club (TPC), usually the last week in January. The FBR Open boosts about half a million spectators over the four-day event. Originally called the Arizona Open, the tournament was known for many years as the Phoenix Open. It become the FBR Open in the fall of 2003. Golf fans from all over the world plan their vacations around this internationally famous golf tournament.
